Alexander T. Poorman, 38, of Ephrata, Pennsylvania, died unexpectedly of natural causes on August 22, 2023. He was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on May 2, 1985.
Alex was a graduate of Our Mother of Perpetual Help School, class of 1999 and Ephrata Senior High School, class of 2003. Alex was a student historian at the Ephrata Cloister; a member of the Ephrata Mountaineer football and track and field teams; and was also involved in the Boy Scouts of America,Troop 252. After high school, Alex attended Lebanon Valley College,class of 2007, where he continued his football career and was a member of the Knights of the Valley fraternity.
Alex worked as a special education teacher for several years before deciding to continue his education at Duquesne University School of Law, class of 2015, where he competed around the country as a member of Duquesne’s nationally recognized moot court team. After graduation, he continued to be involved in moot court as a coach. Alex practiced law in Pittsburgh for approximately eight years before returning home this Spring to join the Lancaster office of Cipriani & Werner, where he felt especially fulfilled and appreciated. He made significant contributions to all the firms where he worked.
Alex enjoyed a variety of sports and outdoor activities. Concerning sports, he particularly enjoyed football and soccer. His favorite teams to root for were the Philadelphia Eagles and the PItt Panthers, whose games he attended for years with his family. An avid outdoorsman, Alex enjoyed camping, hiking, and generally being outside. Among his favorite outdoor activities were hiking to and photographing waterfalls and going on the Natural Water Slides at Ohiopyle State Park. Alex was also an animal lover and had many pets during his lifetime, including Destroyer the iguana, Chocolate and Vanilla, the rabbits, family dogs, Sparkles, Buster, Thunder, and Sunny, and his most recent partner in crime, Spots the cat. Alex’s world was big because of his love of learning (especially history) and travel. Some of his favorite places were Spain and Hilton Head Island. Everyone who knew him considered him to be one of the most well-read, intelligent, and thoughtful people they knew.
He is survived by his parents, Roger C. and Patricia A. Poorman; brother, Roger P. Poorman (Stephanie); grandmother, Fern I. Poorman; several aunts and uncles; many cousins; and a multitude of friends. He was a great son, brother, and friend, and was always willing to help family and friends at a moment’s notice.
A service will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 1PM from the Porterfield-Scheid Funeral Directors & Cremation Services, Ltd, 890 Isabel Drive, Lebanon, PA 17042. The family will receive visitors starting at noon on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Interment will follow at Covenant Greenwood Cemetery in Ebenezer, PA. The celebration of Alex’s life will conclude with refreshments at Heisey’s Diner. Please feel free to dress casually, as that is what Alex always preferred.
