Christopher Nathan Leaf, 46, passed away in December in Binghamton, NY.
Chris grew up in Clinton, CT, and graduated from The Morgan School. As a kid, he loved riding his bike up and down the shoreline towns and getting into mischief with his friends.
Chris’s biggest passion was music. He loved following Phish on tour in his younger years, making plans to sell grilled cheese sandwiches out of his VW bus at shows to help pay for tickets. The Grateful Dead was another band that hugely impacted his life - he even named his cat Jerry in honor of Jerry Garcia. In his later years, he moved on to Bluegrass, spending hours listening to artists including Jerry Garcia & David Grisman, Trampled By Turtles, and The String Cheese Incident. Chris was also a film buff eager to share his latest movie recommendations with family and friends. He set up a family server filled with movies so everyone could enjoy his favorite films together. Chris wasn’t much of a sports fan until he moved to New York, where he developed a love for the
Buffalo Sabres and watching their games.
Chris was predeceased by his mother, Nancy Spencer, whom he loved fully and dearly. His memory will be carried on by his stepfather, Jeffrey Spencer, sister Heather Leaf Shaw, nephew Iain Shaw, and niece Natalie Shaw. He also leaves behind his father, Theodore Leaf, his stepmother Joanne, and their children: Kristen, Becky, Jessi, and Amanda, and families.
Chris will be remembered as a loving son, brother, and uncle whose favorite Christmas gift was a package of new socks, and whose go-to response to the yearly Thanksgiving ‘What are you thankful for?’ question was always ketchup. His unique sense of humor and the joy he brought to his family and friends will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Chris by donating to the UHS Foundation, which supports the hospitals and care centers in Binghamton ( https://www.nyuhs.org/give-back ).
