Clyde P. Peters, age 93 of Hershey, PA died October 13, 2013. He was born December 10, 1929 in Harrisburg, PA the son of the late Clyde Chester, and Helena Zorger Peters.
He was a 1947 graduate of the former William Penn High School in Harrisburg and later attended executive programs at Wharton School and the Small Business Management Program at Harvard Business School.
He is survived by his wife, Gail; two brothers, Frank H. Peters of Gettysburg, PA, and Donald K. Peters of Dillsburg, PA preceded him in death; four children and two stepchildren; seven grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Clyde served in the US Marine Corps from 1948 to 1953 with active service during the Korean War, following which he served 21 years in the Army Reserve retiring as a Captain and Commanding Officer of the 441st Personnel Services Company. He later served six years in the South Carolina State Guard retiring in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a member of American Legion Post 26 in Dillsburg and Military Officers Association of America.
He was formerly employed by The Telegraph Press and Stackpole Books of Harrisburg, PA ultimately serving as President and Chief Executive Officer of the latter. He then held similar positions with Year Book Medical Publishers and Regnery Publishing Company in Chicago, Il. Following retirement from publishing he owned and operated several businesses in the Chicago, Il area. During his publishing career he was active in the industry’s Association of American Publishers, serving first as Chairman of the Smaller Publishers Committee; then on the Board of Directors and its Executive Committee for several years.
An avid tennis player, Clyde achieved a national amateur ranking in 1989, followed by employment for several years as the General Manager of an indoor tennis facility and as General Manager of a tennis Country Club. He served on the Board of the Chicago District Tennis Association and as its Treasurer.
Moving to Sun City Hilton Head, South Carolina in 1998, Clyde became active in several committees and organizations. He served on the Resident Communications Committee and its Broadcast Committee; was President of the Tennis Association for two years; and was a lifetime member of and served as Commander of the Sun City Veterans Association.
He and his wife Gail relocated to Hershey, PA in 2022.
