Edward M. Keener passed away on July 17, 2023 at home surrounded by his wife and children.
Born in Cornwall, PA on April 14, 1939 to the late Marshall (Doc) and Martha (Foltz) Keener. He graduated from Cornwall High School in 1958. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Indiana Technical School, Fort Wayne, IN.
He was employed by the City of Lebanon for forty years as City Engineer and Public Works Director, retiring in 2002. He was a professional engineer, land surveyor, and certified water and wastewater treatment operator.
Edward was a consulting engineer for the City of Lebanon Authority and the Cornwall Authority. He was a director of the Lebanon County Conservation District for twenty-six years. He was a member of the American Public Works Association serving as president for one year. A lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church serving two terms on church council.
He enjoyed boating and vacationing with his family. He earned his private pilot’s license in 1990.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Joan (Shearer), son Michael Keener (Kelly), daughter Janell Cain (David), grandsons Christopher Keener (Caitlin), Nicholas Keener, Derik Carpenter, Jared Carpenter and great-granddaughter Ellie Keener, brother Bruce Keener (Carol) and sister Janet Layser (Steven). He is predeceased by his sister Kay Cummings (James).
Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 11:00AM at Salem Lutheran Church, 119 N. 8th Street, Lebanon. There will be visitation at the church from 9:30-11:00AM. Interment will be private with the family.
