Fred A. “Rip” VanWinkle, Sr., 84, of Lebanon, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2019 at the Lebanon Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of Nancy J. Jagnow VanWinkle, to whom he was married for 65 years. Rip was born in Lebanon on March 14, 1934, son of the late William and Mary Boltz VanWinkle.
Rip was a 1952 graduate of Lebanon High School. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He was a 30 year employee of the former Lebanon Steel Foundry and retired from the former Quaker Alloy. He also was the accountant for the family candy business, VanWinkle Opera Fudge. Rip coached the Legion Baseball Team for the 5th Ward Club for many years. He enjoyed going to casinos, golf, sports, especially the Phillies, traveling and going to the Shore.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, Rip is survived by his sons Fred A. Jr husband of Joan VanWinkle of West Chester, Kirk J., husband of Dawn VanWinkle of Lebanon and grandson Jack VanWinkle of West Chester. He was preceded in death by his brother William VanWinkle.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Rip’s funeral service on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at 11 AM from Porterfield-Scheid Funeral Directors & Cremation Services, Ltd., 890 Isabel Dr., Lebanon (next to Quentin Circle) with Rev. Barry S. Kendall officiating. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM and Thursday from 10 AM to time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be made in Grand View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers family suggests memorial contribution in Rip’s memory to Lebanon Co. Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
