Gaile M Achey, nee Gerhard, died Monday September 18 2023 while on holiday overseas.

Devoted to service in the community, Gaile painted with a broad brush when sharing her time. Over the years as a member of Salem Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday School, was involved with Salem Youth Group including taking them to the ELCA National Youth Convention in San Antonio, was a Cub Scout leader, participated in Women of Salem in various leadership positions, was a member of church council (one of the first women to serve!), and quite enjoyed the silent auctions at the Christmas bazaars. She went on three mission trips to a sister parish of Mwakaleli Congregation in Tanzania, Africa and worked on the Appalachian Service Project (ASP).Gaile loved thrift stores and gift shops… so much so she volunteered at the Spang Crest Gift Shop for decades.

Gaile and her husband Glenn travelled. A lot. Together for many trips and each also taking time to pursue their separate interests. Gaile was baseball to the core: she went to spring training camps in Florida and enjoyed the satisfaction of visiting all the MLB stadiums after her retirement.

After years as residents of Lebanon, Gaile and Glenn moved to Masonic Village in Elizabethtown in 2018. They added great people to the wonderful friend groups they cultivated over the years, in Lebanon and beyond.
Gaile is survived by husband Glenn Achey and cat Wasa. Gaile and Glenn, while not having children of their own, provided care, love and the best of parenting to their nieces and nephew and their collective families: Kristin Gerhard Steiner and her husband Robert; Karrin Stone and her husband Russell and sons, Nolan and Nathaniel; Kevin Brode and his wife, Erin and daughters, Sophie and Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her parents Marlin Gerhard and Dorothy Raiger Gerhard; in-laws Herman and Dorothea Achey and her sister, Carole Brode.

Friends and family of Gaile are invited to attend the memorial service at Sell Chapel at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown PA, Sunday September 24, 2023. Guests may greet the family from 1pm to 2pm. Service begins at 2pm with refreshments to follow.
