James W. Shindel, 91 of Jonestown passed away at home Friday, November 20, 2020. Born on January 24, 1929 in Lebanon, he was the son of the late William Peter and Ida Shay Shindel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Althouse Shindel. He was the companion of Dorothy Martin Kohr for over 35 years.
Jim served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as as an electrician, plant manager for Textile Printing, ANP Air Frames & Power Plants for aircraft and as an aircraft inspector. Jim was a member of the Lebanon Moravian Church. He was a private airplane pilot. He enjoyed aircraft and submarines. He was member of the Sub Vets, EAA, and Cessna 140 Club.
Jim will be missed by his sons, Gary F., husband of Dawn Shindel of Allentown, Kevin J., husband of Kathryn Shindel of Jonestown; his daughters Dian E., wife of Dennis Carpenter of Lebanon, Doreen E., wife of Michael Gerstner, Jr. of Myerstown; 22 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren and his brother Peter, husband of Sally Ann Shindel of Tampa, FL. Jim was preceded in death by his daughters Denise E. Zerbe, Donna E. Bronik, his son, Richard Shindel and his sister Shirley Yost.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jim's funeral service on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 10am with Pastor Thom Keller officiating from the Porterfield-Scheid Funeral Directors & Cremation Services, 890 Isabel Drive, Lebanon. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday, November 27, 2020 from 6 to 8PM and on Saturday from 9 to 10AM. Interment will be held in the Lebanon Moravian Cemetery.
