Lawrence B. “Larry” Royer, 82, of Shippensburg, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021 at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center. He was the husband of Alice Vinoverski Royer. Larry was born in Rehrersburg, PA on June 2, 1938, son of Clarence and Margaret Bickel Royer.
He was a 20-year veteran of the US Army, retiring as a LTC. Larry was a decorated veteran including Bronze Stars for service in Vietnam. He was a graduate of Penn State University and earned an MBA from Shippensburg University. In retirement, Larry was an independent property manager and military consultant. He was a member of Shippensburg American Legion, the VFW, and Penn State Alumni Assoc. Larry also served 4 years on the Shippensburg Borough Council and was one of the founders of the Shippensburg Corn Festival. Larry was an avid golfer, antique clock and chandelier collector, and enjoyed antique cars, especially his Austin Healey and Jaguar. He was an avid Penn State football and Providence College Women’s Volleyball fan.
In addition to his wife Alice, Larry will be missed by his daughters, Margot Royer-Johnson, wife of Jeffery Johnson of Providence, RI; Rachel Royer of Santa Cruz, CA; his brother, Dennis Royer of Rehrersburg; his sister, Constance, wife of Bruce Bashore of Rehrersburg; and his cat, Ringo.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 2 N 8th St., Lebanon, PA on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 9:30 AM. Interment with full military honors will be conducted at the Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Please omit flowers although memorial contributions in Larry’s memory may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 3551 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140; USO, Dept.
