Nancy E. Spencer, 69, passed away on September 14, 2022 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon, PA.
The third eldest of seven girls, she was born Nancy Ellen Van Alstyne on November 1,1953 in New Haven, CT. Growing up she was affectionately known as “Mike” to her family. She was a 1971 graduate of Daniel Hand High School in Madison, CT. She then learned her most important lessons from her many roles in life - wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, waitress, service manager, and volunteer.
Nancy loved to craft and create, especially with the newest Cricut machine. As “Nana” she truly enjoyed whipping up crafts and activities to do with her grandchildren. She used this passion as a volunteer at her local women’s shelter while living in Upstate New York. She was an avid reader who also loved working in her garden and enjoying a glass of wine with her husband while sitting outside at the end of the day.
Nancy lives on through her husband, Jeffrey Spencer, her children, Heather Shaw and Christopher Leaf, and her grandchildren, Iain Shaw and Natalie Shaw.
She was an awesome wife, mother, and grandmother who always provided love and laughs and will be remembered for her strong will and quick wit. She taught her family that laughter can be a powerful medicine and that gift will not be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, please remember Nancy by donating to a charity that supports the causes that were important to her: National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Services for Nancy will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022 at the Porterfield-Scheid Funeral Home at 890 Isabel Drive, Lebanon, PA 17042. Greetings will be held at 10am followed by a small service at 11am.
